WHAT IS A TRUE PROTEIN BITE?

In the world of Protein Bars and Bites we see a lot of labeling that may or may not be true.  The Convenience Store has many Protein Bars and Bites with the labeling 16 grams of Protein or more.  But what does this mean for the whole product?

A TRUE Protein Bites means that the  grams of protein are ½ or more then ½ the grams of carbohydrates

A True Protein Bite is where the grams of Protein are ½ or more then ½  of the grams of carbohydrates.(PFC Fitness Camp, San Diego, Physicians, Health coaches)  Carbs are your energy. Therefore, in a Bite that shows 10 grams of Carbohydrates and 6 grams of Protein – 6  Carbohydrates grams are being used to digest the 6 Protein grams.  This leaves  4 Carbohydrate grams to digest the Fibre and the remaining grams are free energy.

Each gram of Carbohydrate or Protein is  4 calories.

The FIX Bites have 3 products that are TRUE Protein Bites – NUT FREE FIX BITE, PB & J FIX BITE and the TRUFFLE FIX BITE.

CARBS VS PROTEIN VS FAT

Carbohydrates provide the energy the body needs to function.  Carbohydrates are vegetables, fruits, sugars like candy and grain products, Proteins are the muscle builders, repair the muscles of the body as well as maintain the health of your bones, hair and skin.

Proteins are all meats – chicken, fish, red meats- tofu made from soybeans is the highest protein bean.

Fats- supply the cells with nutrition, keep the body warm, help the body absorb nutrients and produce hormones.

ARE NATURAL SOURCES OF SUGAR BETTER FOR YOUR BODY THEN PROCESSESD?

First let us define a NATURAL SOURCE and a PROCESSED source.

Natural sources are found naturally in food like fruit, veggies, honey, and maple syrup.

Glucose is a simple sugar found in mushrooms, tomatoes and onions etc.  It is vital to life and is a single molecule that is broken down easily and used by every cell in the body.

Fructose is another simple sugar also referred to as a fruit sugar as it is found in fruit sources.  It is a bit harder to break down and your liver is involved in that process.

Processed sugars are natural sugars that are refined, modified, combined or processed to make something with a regular flavour and texture.

Sucrose combines glucose and fructose to become a complex sugar.  Typically extracted form sugar beets or sugar cane.

Other sugars are High fructose derived from corn syrups, agave, molasses.

The Difference is that  NATURAL Sources also bring with it a pile of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fibre.  Whereas the PROCESSED sources do not.

The FIX BITES uses only natural source sugars of honey, maple syrup and dates. We do use molasses in our Coffee FIX Bite.

Natural Source Sugars brng with them a pile of nutrients, antioxidants, fibre, vitamins and minerals

IS A CALORIE A CALORIE NO MATTER WHERE IT COMES FROM?

In a study conducted at Harvard University the question was asked.  Knowing that 100 calories of candy is the same as 100 calories of kale, what is the difference.

It is known that Protein sources use 20% to 30% of their calories to be digested.  Carbohydrates use 5% to 10% of their calories to be digested and Fats use 0% to 3% of their calories to be digested.  (Healthline)

Therefore, the theory around a higher protein diet can be validated.  If you are eating more protein then there is les available energy for the body to use or store.

However,  you need to balance your food intake because the body needs nutrients from carbohydrate sources and fat sources to survive.  You can not live on protein alone.

Knowing these ratios can help you create great meals and a diet plan.

Your physical activity level is a huge factor in this equation as well.  HITT programs and Interval training will increase your energy usage over a walk around the block.

WHAT CONSTITUTES A GREAT SNACK?

Whatever we feed our body, it has to recognize.  Whole raw foods in their natural form are easy for the body to use. The more often you feed your body, the more it has to work and this increases your metabolism.   Therefore feeding our body 5 or 6 times a day will increase your metabolism.

A smart snack will help your body loose weight.  It should have a balance of protein, carbohydrate and fibre.

In a study at Harvard volunteers had their basal metabolic rates measured in the morning after eating a cheese sandwich made with multigrain bread and real cheddar cheese then the next morning a sandwich made with white bread and processed cheese spread. The test proved it takes 46.8% more energy to digest the real cheddar and multi-grain sandwich. Whole raw food will help you loose weight!
